How Does Your Water Garden Grow?

One of the first water features we created at our retail location was "Colorado Falls".

These are twin falls, one ending into a pondless rock bed,

and the other waterfall tumbles and streams under a bridge and into a peaceful koi pond.

We love this beautiful waterscape and have enjoyed developing its features and watching it mature over the years.

Have you heard that a water feature is like a fine wine - it gets better over time? It is definitely true! It settles in and nestles into your landscape, the ecosystem gets better, and of course the plants you choose grow and mature.

Let's take another virtual walk along one half of Colorado Falls, look at the different plantings, and then watch a video to see it in all of its glory.

Planted at the top of the waterfall and along the stream are grasses, lilies and irises. The pictures above were taken in May of this year and the following photos are from this July. (Every season has its own beauty!)

Although these purple irises are now past bloom for the season, their foliage adds texture and color along the stream.

Irises can be planted along the edge of the water feature or bare-rooted in the water itself. Simply spread the roots under the water and cover them with gravel.

Hostas are another favorite that grows beautifully along the water's edge.

Two Japanese Maple trees mark both the beginning and the end of our falls. The top maple is a Crimson Japanese Maple and at the foot of the bridge shading the koi pond is a Bloodspot Japanese Maple. Let's go to the video to see it all.....

We invite you to take a tour of our 2 acres of ponds, fountains and waterfalls, including Colorado Falls, at our Paw Paw, Michigan location. Please visit our website for directions and store hours or give call us at (269) 657-4577.
